Greetings from GEOS Montreal!! Greetings from GEOS Montreal! Although the busy summer season is over, our student numbers have remained strong and the school is still bustling with students from all over the world. It’s ‘back-to-school’ time in North America, and that is also certainly true for many of our students here.
Autumn is an amazing time in Montreal. The weather is sometimes like summer, and sometimes we feel that ‘crisp’ in the morning air, especially as we approach October, and into November. The leaves are still green but will soon start to change, as we can see from outside of our windows, looking onto our Mont Royal. |

Hello Everyone! As I am the school’s newest staff member, allow me to introduce myself: my name is Caterina Lipardi and I am the new Program Coordinator at GEOS.
Part of my responsibilities at the school is to organise the student activities and, I must say, that is the best part of my job! In the last month GEOS students got a chance to go indoor ice-skating, attend the Montreal World Film Festival, visit the Olympic Stadium and Old Montreal, hunt for lost items in the city’s Chinatown district, and visit Quebec City and Ottawa! Ouf! It’s been a busy month! In the past few weeks, I have gotten the chance to meet some great people from all over the world! I look forward to meeting all our new or returning students in September, and start a whole new set of activities … and amazing memories! |
|
I’ve been attending GEOS for 4 weeks and it’s been a good experience;
I’ve improved my French in every skill. The teachers are nice and so are the people who work here.
Also, it’s a nice place to meet people from all over the world!

THE MONTREAL MEG FESTIVAL
The 9th edition of Montreal's MEG festival will take place from Thursday September 6th to Sunday September 9th, 2007. A long weekend of unbridled musical bliss awaits, combining the highly anticipated M.I.A., the crystalline melodies or Peter Bjorn and John, Peter Von Poehl and The Clientele; the kinetic worlds of Au Revoir Simone, Animal Collective, and Explosions In The Sky, as well as the overflowing energy of the new "French Touch" generation of Institubes Paris Terror Club, Adam Kesher, and Fluokids. The Canadian and Québécois scenes will be well represented through the post rock music of fancy of The Besnard Lakes, the pop fantasies of Pas Chic Chic and Miracle Fortress, and the 8-bit electropunk of Crystal Castles. Once again, it sounds like the month of September will start off with music, eclecticism, and dancing...

|
The festivals also continue – we are right now in the middle of the Montreal World Film Festival – and the streets remain busy.
All seasons in Montreal are special, but as many of you know, Autumn is especially beautiful.
Warm wishes

Born in Le Mans (France), Alan LeBras has a Master’s Degree in Second Language Education and a Master’s Degree in Translation from Concordia University.
A supporter of the “total immersion” doctrine, Alan believes that, when learning a new language, it’s better to take risks (and perhaps make mistakes!) as long as his students always keep talking!
A true “master of patience”, Alan loves working with small groups of students: “working with a smaller set of students allows me to get to know everyone… that’s why I love working at GEOS!” |

THE MONTREAL WORLD FILM FESTIVAL
The goal of the Montreal World Film Festival (Montreal International Film Festival) is to encourage cultural diversity and understanding among nations, to foster the cinema of all continents by stimulating the development of quality cinema, to promote filmmakers and innovative works, to discover and encourage new talents, and to promote meetings between cinema professionals from around the world. The high profile WORLD COMPETITION included world and international premieres.
The Montreal World Film Festival also introduced the CINEMA UNDER THE STARS where thousands of film lovers and festival-goers enjoyed watching films projected nightly on the giant screen of our outdoor site. These films, box office hits, classics of the seventh art and films that have graced the Festival's screens in the past, were shown beginning at 8:30 pm at the beautiful Place-des-Arts. |
