Text Box: Halloween Special

We are from Mexico and we have been here for 4 months.

4 awesome months in which we have had a great experience. Here, you can learn a lot about different cultures because as you already know, Montreal is a multicultural city.

Our experience in GEOS Montreal has been really nice because here we have the opportunity to have fun while we learn languages; the fact that it’s a language school doesn’t mean that it has to be boring.

We also have had the pleasure to know a lot of nice people, the students and GEOS staff as well.

We can summarize that Montreal and GEOS have been the perfect combination to enjoy our stay here.

Thanks to the staff

Thanks to Montreal

Thanks to GEOS

Hello! My name is Gil Sun and I study at GEOS Montreal. My life in Montreal is very different than it was in Korea. Montreal is so much more laid back and people here are so open-minded. A typical day in my life in Montreal is very simple. I wake up, go to school, and then, after school, I like to go out with my GEOS friends and visit famous places in Montreal. We always do something every day after school and it’s great! My favourite places to go are Old-Montreal or the Plateau.

Katalin Szucs

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Katalin Szucs obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Literature and a Master’s in French as a Second Language at the University of Bourgogne. A literature and nature lover, Katalin admits that she “fell into teaching”: “I never thought I would teach. I started teaching by chance… yet I simply love it!”

Patient and always calm, Katalin believes that, in the classroom, it is important to work individually as well as in groups. “It’s important for students to learn from their books, but it’s even more important that they are able to use the language in real life!” As a teacher, Katalin’s main objective is to get all her students involved and to create a great study environment for her students: “I want my students to enjoy learning the French language; I want them to dive into the learning process and practice French as much as possible!”

TESTIMONIALS

Text Box: SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

November is here and, as the weather is getting chillier and our noses are starting to sniffle, we are all looking forward to our monthly activities.

November is a beautiful month in Montreal. The weather is still pleasant, which gives us a chance to walk outdoors and breathe-in the crisp November air! So, before we cover-up in our winter coats and hats and mittens, lets have a month of fun, outdoor activities!

This month’s theme is culture, and what better way to learn about culture than to discover the many facets of this great multicultural metropolis. Accordingly, every activity in November will revolve around discovering a part of Canadian, as well as world heritage!

First up: a visit of the Montreal Biosphere and the Park Jean-Drapeau on St-Helen’s Island. A jewel set amidst the St. Lawrence River, Park Jean-Drapeau is without doubt one of Montreal's most precious assets. Moreover, it is a veritable open-air art gallery, in which works of public art may be admired! Amongst its most significant is of course the Biosphere.

Symbol of Expo '67, the sphere was designed by visionary architect Buckminster Fuller , and has an important place in the history of contemporary architecture. The largest building of its kind in the world (as high as a 20-storey building), its structure reproduces more than 75% of a sphere. Built from triangles, which Buckminster Fuller considered the perfect form, the Biosphere is the synthesis of his entire process: he demonstrated that it was possible to create a livable space using only one-fiftieth of the materials normally used in a conventional architectural design.

Then, on November 15th, GEOS Montreal students will have the chance to join a guided tour of the Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal. This church's architecture is among the most dramatic in the world due to its grand and colorful interior as well as its hundreds of intricate wooden carvings. A real gemstone of our city, the Notre Dame Basilica is a must see for any Montreal visitor! After the tour of the Basilica, the GEOS group will also venture in the very distinctive alleys of Old Montreal to discover the beauty of 17th and 18th century architecture!

A week later, GEOS students will discover the district of Chinatown! By participating in a scavenger hunt of this renowned neighbourhood, GEOS Students will get a taste of the multi-ethnicity of Montreal!

Finally, on the last week of November, GEOS students will visit the Mc Cord Museum, a public research and teaching museum dedicated to the preservation, study, diffusion and appreciation of Canadian history. At the Museum, students will visit the Simply Montreal exhibition. Simply Montreal offers myriad glimpses of this unique city and immerses visitors into the very heart of the rich and varied experience it offers!

So these are the activities scheduled for November. We hope you will join us and discover, with us, the beauty of Montreal culture!
