Welcome to our new Newsletter. The month of March was actually pretty cold and long. The winter does not want to leave us in Montreal. We were almost expecting spring when we were biten by some new snowstorms. We will have to wait a couple of weeks to be able to wear some lighter clothes. However, we can prepare ourselves for spring by starting to wear colorful clothes. We have some nice months ahead!!!

In our school, we had some changes: Marikym, finished her internship and decided to go to Brazil to teach French to some Brazilian planning to move to Canada. Lucky them! Naoko has already been taking over the activities organization for almost three weeks now. Naoko is introducing herself below:

"My name is Naoko Toyama, I am currently doing my internship at GEOS Montreal as an activity coordinator. I truly enjoy working here as I always get to meet wonderful people from all over the world! I am also studying French here, and I have been learning a lot so far…more to come! As for my background, I am originally from Japan and came to Montreal in 2006 to study at McGill University. I studied Linguistics and Psychology and graduated last year. In my past time, I enjoy travelling, meeting new people, discovering fun places in Montreal, cooking and exercising (I love Aikido and Zumba). I will be more than happy to help you get to know this wonderful city which I fell in love with…and I am still in love! There are so many festivals, shows, restaurants, bars, clubs and places to visit in Montreal that you will never get bored here! I always seek for new experiences and I am excited to share them with you as we do various activities together!"

We received wonderful news from one of our former English teachers. In fact, Mark Berube became a father of a nice little girl named Alice. All our congratulations!
Also, one of our former French teachers, Ecaterina, has about four weeks left before the arrival of her little girl.
Merci beaucoup a tous!"

The month of March is full of excitement…spring is coming! Although it was still cold and snowy, feeling the arrival of spring, GEOS students kept themselves busy with activities!

On the first Friday of the month we went to Montreal Biodome. We enjoyed strolling in the jungle, watching beavers swim and waiting for penguins. When we excitedly arrived in the penguin area, all the penguins were sleeping. So we waited and waited for them to get up, but at the end we had to give up. Although we couldn’t see them walk and swim in their cute way, we still had fun together chatting in front of sleeping penguins! On the third Friday we had an international potluck at our student lounge. We had pizza from Italy, cheesy bread and banana cake from Brazil, chilaquiles from Mexico and pumpkin dish from Japan! We had a good time chatting over variety of food and discovered new flavor from different countries.
Every week of the month, we had lively English and French coffee talks. In these activities, GEOS students practiced their English or French over delicious coffee and cookies, talking about their culture, hobbies, plans for the weekend…anything! Cookies go fast, so I advise everyone to come early! Want to be informed on our activities? Please don't hesiteate to ask me, check our activity group on facebook or on our website:
