Welcome to our September newsletter. Montreal was extremely vibrant this month, welcoming sport stars for the Rogers Tennis Cup, and presenting many other activities. The weather was good until the end of the month when it started to be wonderful. We expect the beginning of fall to be sunny and warm, and the activities to be exciting.
GEOS Montreal as several events which have occurred this month. We welcomed 4 new teachers this month and one of them, Aisha Boyce who teaches English, intrudices herself bellow:
“Hello, My name is Aisha Boyce and I am a new ESL teacher at Geos Montreal. My heritage on my father's side is Guyanese and on my Mother's side it is Welsh. I was born in Hamilton Ontario and I studied Linguistics and Psychology at UWO and took my TESL certification at IH Toronto.
After I finished my undergrad studies I traveled abroad and taught English in South Korea and Mexico. In my free time I enjoy reading, running and singing. I find teaching English to be a wonderful experience and I am so glad to be able to continue teaching in Canada at Geos Montreal."
My name is Marikym D’Amours-Bryson and I’m pleased to be able to do an internship as the activities coordinator for GEOS Montreal. I’m about to finish my degree in Cultural animation and research (social communication) at University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM).
I’ll be glad to share my passion for the province of Quebec and the city of Montreal with you, as I’ve been living here ever since I’m born.
I simply love meeting people from all over the world and learning about other cultures. Therefore, I’ve traveled to Europe, United States and Caribbeans and I’m looking forward to my next trip. Above and beyond my travel passion, I enjoy alpine skiing, surfing, hiking, kayaking, cooking and I’m always up to try some new experiences.
Passionate and always smiling, I’ll be more than happy to show you around Montreal, whether it is attractions, restaurants, bars, pubs, and nice places must-be-seen and glad to tell you a bit more about Quebec’s culture.

"Salut!
Hello ! My name is Michelle. I started my work at Mc Donald 3 weeks ago and I am enjoying my work. As I am a cashier, I can practice my French and my English (in Montreal, you can practice both languages which is very appreciable). People, who I work with, are very nice and help me if I need it. We do our best to provide an excellent service to our customers and we have to give a productive and serious work. When I came to Montreal, I participated in the work experience program and I had to attend three workshops in which I received many important information concerning work methods. For example, methods like how to make a good CV, and how to act and behave during an interview in Canada. One more time, I would like to thank GEOS team for helping me with this opportunity. I am very satisfied with this experience and with my time in Montreal. I am sure that this experience will give me a memorable formation for my life." Students at GEOS Montreal aren’t in this beautiful city only to learn English or French, but also to discover Quebec’s culture and Montreal’s rhythm. Therefore, in September, our students had the chance to experience different activities whether cultural, social or sportive. First Friday of the month, some brave students enjoyed playing soccer (football as it is called outside United States and Canada) in the giant Jeanne Mance Park, at the foot of Mount Royal, by this beautiful 40⁰C day. Second Friday of the month, many students some scared, some excited, tasted Quebec’s most popular fast food meal, “Poutine”, at the famous restaurant Frites Alors! The verdict is in: Poutine is awesome! As some tasted the regular fries-gravy sauce and cheese poutine, some tried steak poutine or Mexican poutine. One thing is for sure, we all had a great time!
The next Friday, another group of fearless students confronted themselves in a friendly paintball battle! Dressed with plumber suits, they went running around an indoor sandy field decorated with jeeps, school buses, metal bins and wooden tours where they could hide themselves. Everyone got out of there alive and smiling!
The last Friday of the month, September 24th, we almost all went to St-Viateur’s Bagels and then to Fairmount’s Bagels to have a bite in those very famous and unique bagels. Which ones were the best? The students chose, but now you get to discover those delicacies… Throughout the month, every Tuesday and Wednesday, the students could continue their progress in English and in French discussing with other students about their culture, their country as well as learning about Quebec’s culture and history.
Montreal is a charming and elegant city in which many different cultures join and become one. Just by living in it you get a new perspective of the world around you and a better understanding of your own culture. GEOS has also been an important part of my experience here. I've learned a lot, not only from my amazing teachers but also from my classmates. I've made a lot of friends, and even though I haven't been here long, my English has improved so much. I think that coming to Montreal and studying here is one of the best decitions I have ever made.
