Welcome to our December newsletter. The month brought us the cold winter that people of Montreal are used to. We received snow, wind but also many sunny days! The temperature varies between -20C and -1C. This is cold but you get used to it quickly.
Our students can enjoy outdoor activities such as ice skating, skiing, sliding as well as snowball fights. In addition to winter, came along the Christmas decorations and all over the city. Nice songs playing in stores, lights everywhere in the streets and an overall happy feeling on everyone’s faces. The downtown core was very crowded leading to Christmas because of all the last minute shopping and…Boxing Day on December 26(all the stores have huge sales on this day!!!). December also represents the last month of the year; hopefully the year 2010 year will be good and even better than 2009. To all of you, we wish you a happy holiday season but most importantly health and success for the next 12 months!
Please keep in touch and join our Facebook group! Feel free to upload pictures and share your experience with your friends. You can also take a look at our videos (please visit www.youtube.com ) and have a look at the testimonials on our website (www.geosmontreal.com).
We are welcoming a new member to our staff of teachers, Robyn Braidwood who teaches our English level 1. Unfortunately we have to say goodbye to one of our good French teacher Boian.
Also we would like to congratulate three teachers: Anis and Mostafa became fathers and our lovely French teacher Fariba is pregnant as well. Congratulations to all of them!
Concerning our school activities, Our students went to watch a movie the first weekend of December. Then the school was decorated with the help of some students in order to create a Christmas atmosphere for all of those away from their friends and family. The following Friday, our students went to see the Christmas decoration and illuminations in Old Montreal and we ended up on to the outdoor ice skating rink at the Old Port. This is a popular activity in winter. Unfortunately because it is getting really cold, it is a must to be wear warm clothes. http://www.geosmontreal.com/activities.
We also celebrated Christmas together with a nice holiday dinner in a bar. The meal was just awesome: turkey and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce with a Christmas ice cream cake. So delicious! We all had a good time. The bar was cozy and nice with good music. We also would like to wish you an happy new Year 2010!!!!
What is happening in January in Montreal?
If you are interested in nice autos, you can go to “Le salon de l’auto”, in order to dream a bit of what you will never get. It is also interesting to see the new cars . (January 15-24, 2010)
If you are not sensitive to the cold and want to have lot of fun, you should probably go to “La Fête des neiges” (Jan. 23, 24, 30)
Our new teacher Robyn is introducing herself: "Hello! My name is Robyn Braidwood and I am truly delighted to be part of GEOS Montreal. I have been a teacher for decades, and happy traces of this can be found in the myriad of smile-lines that add character to my face. Most of my teaching has been cast in the beautiful but wet climate of Vancouver, British Columbia. Though Montreal winters can be bracing, the sun does make generous appearances, and this I greatly appreciate. I was imprinted with sunshine, having started life in San Diego, California. Teaching for me is as necessary as the sun, and GEOS is a great place to radiate. The GEOS community generates a warmth that makes me laugh and smile, adding yet more “character” to my visage (as we say en Français. Montreal, as everyone attests, is the heart of intercultural exchange, and GEOS is at the center of this brilliant essence. Other than loving to teach, and adoring Montreal and my GEOS experience, I am the proud mother of two grown children, a daughter, Woren, and a son, Lane, who are thrilled for their mom to be with such wonderful people. Thank you, GEOS, for your arms-wide-open welcome!
We are very proud of our Nationality mix for this month. Currently we have 36 Nationalities represented in the school among our 173 students.
You can take a look where our students are coming from:
Canada and Europe: 13% each
Brazil: 12%
Japan: 11%
Colombia and Korea: 8% each
Mexico: 6%
Saudi Arabia: 5%
Russia: 3 %
Turkey: 2%
Others:19%
I have to admit that this experience to be in Montreal is really great because I enjoy a lot the city, the view and the most important... The school!! I like so much the school!! And the teachers are very professional and with a good sense of humor!!

TOUTE L'EQUIPE GEOS VOUS SOUHAITE A TOUS LA BONNE ANNEE 2010!!!
I have already been at Geos, to improve my English, 6 years ago and this summer I decided to come back. Montreal is a great and nice city to study and almost perfect for young people who want to take a break from their usual life. The school is in the heart of Montreal and the staff and teachers are always willing to help you. Geos hosts people from all over the world and gives you the chance to get to know people from total different backgrounds. My time in Montreal was great and I really enjoyed Geos.
