You still have a couple of weeks to enjoy them.

Please find below the testimonial of Marikym who did her internship with us for almost 6 months. She was mainly in charge with the activity organization for our students.

Finding the right internship for us is like choosing a career. You want to find a place where you like your tasks, you like the people you are working with and where you can achieve your professional and academic objectives.
To finish my degree in Animation and cultural researches (Social Communication) at University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), I had to do an internship in one of the many domains we can choose from after our degree. Of course, we get much help from University to find one that matches our interests and we can choose from a list of places offering internships. I chose to contact GEOS Montreal and now that I’m almost done, I can say that I made the right decision.
As soon as I started working at GEOS, I felt very welcome by the staff and by the students studying at GEOS. As the activities coordinator, I am in charge of the activities program. My tasks are clear and I am free to create and organize any kinds of activities to help the students discover and enjoy the beauties of Montreal.
I was able to develop myself professionally and on a personal basis as well. Not only did I could put my skills in profits, but I learned so much about other cultures, which is, in my point of view, the best things you can learn in this flat world. I don’t know exactly what I want to as a career, but I know for sure that I want to work with people coming from different cultures and backgrounds.
Even if I have been living in Montreal for 22 years, I have never enjoyed my own city as I enjoy it now. I discovered it all over again by showing it around to the students and I developed a real passion for it and for Quebec’s history.
Leaving GEOS will certainly be very difficult emotionally, but I’m more than happy and grateful to have had the opportunity to do my internship there.

Internship, 6 months at GEOS Montreal

Activity Coordinator

This month, we welcomed a couple of new English teachers and our French teacher Judith went on vacation for one month in Thailand. Like mentioned above, our intern, Marikym will finish her internship at the end of this week. She was in charge of the activities at the school and did a great job. She will be missed by everyone in GEOS. However, our students will still have some activities offered to them as we will welcome a new intern, Naoko Toyoma who will take over. Welcome on board!!!

Also our former teacher Mark Berube is launching his new album and will start touring this  month. If you would like to see some of his videos, please check his website: www.markberube.com.

Marikym and Mario.

Mario: "When I was asked to write a testimonial, I was surprised. I came here and the last day looked so far that you think it will never arrive, but time flies when you enjoy what you are doing. Since the classes started, I felt so good in this school. The methodology is great. Moreover, the teachers are fantastic because they will always create a dynamic ambience in which you could feel comfortable and interested in the topics chosen. However, it is not all studying. Amusement is also an important element of traveling and Montreal is an amazing city for it. There are always different activities and shows for all tastes and the school also provides some, plus any kind of information you need. Furthermore, as one of most the multicultural cities of Canada, you can find people from all around the world and make a lot of friends. This has been a terrific experience, coming here and leaving summer in Peru is worthwhile. I have enjoyed every moment I have spent here. I want to thank all the staff, the teachers and the people I have met, all of you have been so kind to me".

February: month of snow, love and of course, fun (like every month).
Students started the month learning a little more about Montreal’s history and enjoying the beauties of Old Montreal on a friendly tour of this fabulous district of Montreal.

Second week of the month, students went to compete in a night of bowling. With lights and music, they had a lot of fun partying on the wooden alleys of Quilles G Plus.

Then, our own way to bring back the sun was to do a Jamaican Night. As you may know, you can travel almost everywhere in the world while staying in Montreal. Any country you want to visit, there is going to be a restaurant, a café or a bar that will be able to bring you where you want. Mango Bay, one of the best Caribbean restaurants in Montreal, if not the best, welcomed our group of nearly 30 students. With Jamaican music, jerk chicken (a famous Jamaican dish), cocktails and the famous Red Stripe Jamaican beer, we all got into the “Yah Mon” mood. The night was just starting as we went to a  Karaoke to finish it up.

One of the best winter festivals in Quebec is Carnaval de Quebec happening every year in the city of the same name. Well known because of Bonhomme Carnaval, this event brings together many artists and offers shows and activities of all kinds for the whole family. The students participated in this great happening as many of them went on a day trip to Quebec to visit the famous Ice Hotel and enjoy the city.

Spring coming really fast, the temperature went high in mid-February and we unfortunately got some rain. As the cross country skiing trails were all icy, we haven’t been able to try this amazing winter sport, but nothing stops us. We went to Old Port of Montreal, where the ultimate winter event takes place: The Montreal High Lights Festival. Some of the students tried marshmallows and sausages on the fire for the first time. We went on the very bright Ferris wheel where we could see the city from a different and lovely view. Also, we danced on the rhythm of the South African-born Montrealer, Lorraine Klaasen and, as our stomaches were empty from all that action, we went for some good crepes with maple syrup.
