Monday 02 th, May 2010 - Newsletter “Montreal - The GEOS Insider”

Welcome to our May Newsletter. April was a month full of surprises. We still had some snow at the beginning of the month and we had temperatures up and down . Some days, the weather was around 0 and the following weekend, the weather would reach 15C. We got a bit of sun but most of the days were pretty rainy or cloudy. Probably the whole population of Montreal is waiting for May with  the hope and the desire to see the temperature increase. May is supposed to be warmer and sunnier, hopefully!

On the first Friday of the month, we went to Warrior Emperor and China’s Terracotta Army exhibition at Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. It was amazing to see all the stone soldiers, weapons, and objects which were used more than 2000 years ago in China. Since it was raining on that day, it was great to spend our Friday afternoon at the museum!

On the second Friday, we did a Bagel Tour! We went to two popular bagel shops in Montreal: St-Viateur and Fairmount. The weather was lovely on that day, and we enjoyed eating and comparing different kinds of bagels outside! The result: we liked Fairmount bagels more than St-Viateur ones. We like them better because Fairmount has more variation in their bagels. Their chocolate bagels were delicious! After the tour, we went to Montreal’s famous brewer Dieu du Ciel! and enjoyed chatting over local beer.

The third Friday was Jean Talon Market and Italian Night! At the market, we discovered fresh local products as well as international ones. After the market tour, we had dinner at Da Enrico, a BYOB Italian restaurant in Little Italy. The food was delicious and we had a great time! Some students continued the night at L'Amère à Boire, another local brewer in Montreal.

The last Friday of the month, we did an Old Montreal Tour and Polish Night! We enjoyed walking around and learned about historical aspects of this beautiful part of Montreal. After the tour, we had dinner at Stash Café, a charming Polish restaurant in Old Montreal. For many of the students, it was their first time to try Polish food, and they liked it! We had a lovely time with good food, good company and live piano music.
