Tuesday 30th, November 2010 - Newsletter “Montreal - The GEOS Insider”

Welcome to our November newsletter. We had a couple of warm or rainy days but we also started to have our first chilly days for which winter coats, scarves, and gloves were a must. Winter is coming for sure. We had our first snowflakes.

If you would like to stay in touch with GEOS Montreal, please join our Facebook group! Feel free to also upload pictures and share your experience with your friends and even former students.
Mes livres préférés sont : « Elizabeth, the struggle for the throne » by David Starkey et « Think and grow rich » by Napoleon Hill."

Professeur de Français

For those who know him, you will be pretty happy to hear that Mark Berube came back to Montreal from his music tour in Europe and will stay for a while here as him and his wife are expecting a baby.

What a month November was for the students here in Montreal!
The Montreal "always changing" Autumn weather didn’t stop the students from enjoying what Montreal has to offer and the Quebecois culture.
The students reconforted themselves from the cold and windy weather by going to Juliette et Chocolat, a fabulous small coffee shop where they enjoyed every kind of hot chocolate, chocolate fondues and crepes.

The Hockey season started and a trip to Montreal is not complete without experiencing a game live or in a a bar or restaurant. Therefore, the students went to La Cage aux Sports, a sports restaurant, to get the vibe of the Montreal Canadiens fever. Luckily, they won the game!

The French learning experience doesn’t stop as soon as you step out of the classroom. Montreal offers a lot of opportunities for students to keep practicing their French. One of these opportunities is Cinemania, a French movie festival with subtitles in English. Nearly 12 students went to Cinema Imperial to enjoy the new release of director Fabienne Berthaud called "Les Pieds nus sur les limaces" .

As many cities around Canada, Montreal has its own Chinatown. Even if it is smaller than Vancouver’s, there are many discoveries to be made there. The students enjoyed a tour of the Chinatown including the tasting of Dragon’s beard candy and bubble tea.

During the last weeks of November, students enjoyed many different activities such as playing pool, having a poutine (a Quebecois fast food meal) at La Banquise which is the best place to have poutine in Montreal, and watching an Imax Movie called "The Ultimate Wave".

An unforgettable moment for most of the students surely was the Santa Claus Parade. This yearly event kicks off of the Holiday season in the city. Even if it was quite cold outside on November 20th, the students enjoyed the celebrations!

What is happening in November in Montreal?

Montrealers really like to celebrate the Holidays and they don’t only celebrate it on Christmas day! December is the month for celebrations. Every Saturday from December 4th to January 8th is the very impressive Telus on Ice fireworks on the Quays of Old Port of Montreal.
