Welcome to our October newsletter. October was a colorful month. We are in the middle of the autumn and all the leaves have almost fell. Overall, the temperature was not that cold, and we had many sunny days. However, we were all surprised with the snow we received on one particular day of the month. Please keep in touch and join our Facebook group! Feel free to upload pictures and share your experience with your friends. You can also take a look at our videos (please visit www.youtube.com ) and have a look at the testimonials on our website (www.geosmontreal.com).
We are welcoming a new member to our staff of teachers. Anis Balti teaches our IELTS class and our English level 1.

The month of October was full of fun activities. For our Monday movie nights, we watched “Sideways” and “Les trois couleurs: rouge”. For our first Friday outdoor activity, 20 of our students went bowling. The second weekend, we visited to the Atwater market to see a variety of Halloween decorations and pumpkins. The third outing was to the Dollar cinema where we watched the movie “Hangover”, an American comedy. The fourth weekend, we went to savour poutine at “la Banquise”. Finally, we finished the month with a halloween party at the school. Staff members and students dressed up for the whole day. We organized a pumpkin carvin competition and a costume competition. The most original and artistic pumpkins and costumes each received a price: one week of elective class. We played games, had food and drinks. It was a nice little party enjoyed by all who attended.

"Hi ! my name is Anis Balti, I was born in Tunisia 32 years ago and I now live in Montreal. I have a BA in English Language and Literature and an MA in Linguistics from LaManouba University. I have also earned the Trinity College London TESOL certificate. I have been teaching English and ESL for 7 years. I taught in different countries and in different contexts such as secondary schools, colleges, universities and language schools. I have even had the opportunity to have an 80-year-old student in one of my classes in England. I have recently started working for GEOS Language Academy which is situated in the heart of downtown Montreal. The diverse cultural and ethnic mix which characterizes the school renders teaching and learning more exciting and enriching. Besides being a teacher, I am also a musician (bass player). I have been in bands and gigs for more that 12 years now. I like different types of music including pop, blues, rock and heavy metal." |

"When I arrived at GEOS Montreal four weeks ago, I just wanted to improve my English and add a highlight to my CV. But I found so much more than that: First of all, I have won dear friends at school. While we enjoy Montreal together and get to know our different cultures, we practice our English skills without even noticing. Also, the highly interactive classes help me build more confidence – in both my English and myself. I particularly love the role plays and discussions on controversial topics that not only increase my fluency but teach me lots about myself. This is due to the excellent young teachers, who impart even sophisticated grammar or vocabulary with esprit and humour. They make me look forward to every single school day. Thank you, GEOS!" Hi! My name is Rita Chen and I am the Regional Marketing Coordinator for GEOS North America. I'm based in Montreal but I am actually responsible for all 12 schools in North America. My family background is Taiwanese but I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. When I was younger I didn't travel much but after I graduated from university, I moved to Tokyo, Japan to be an English teacher for GEOS. I enjoyed Japan so much that I ended up staying for 3 & a half years! While I was in GEOS Japan, I went from being a teacher to working in Tokyo's Head Office. In 2008, I was given the opportunity to transfer to GEOS North America. I was first placed in GEOS New York school and then, after a year, I moved to Montreal. I have been in Montreal for 3 months now and I love it here! It amazes me how the city is so bilingual - you can find both French and English influenced buildings, signs, and monuments; and people are fluent in both French and English. I am studying French at GEOS Montreal right now so I one day hope to be able to speak French like that too! My hobbies are dancing, cooking, singing, travelling, and studying languages. I can speak Chinese Mandarin and Japanese in addition to English. As I mentioned earlier, I am taking French classes. In addition, I also study Korean on Saturdays. It's a tough schedule but my classes are fun so I'm enjoying myself! I love meeting new people so if you're ever in GEOS Montreal, please drop by the office and say "Hi"! I look forward to meeting you!
