Monday, August 31st, 2009 - Newsletter “Montreal - The GEOS Insider”

Welcome to our August newsletter. Even if the summer is almost gone and students will have to soon start their university year, we still have many students interested in learning English and French. We also have more requests concerning internships. In additional to learning a foreign language, many want to enrich their professional experience. In terms of weather, the month of August was much better than the other summer months this year. We could enjoy sunny and very hot days. We could also enjoy outdoor activities, bike rides, parks and the beach.

Please keep in touch and join our Facebook group! Feel free to insert pictures and share your experiences with your friends. You can post some news about you. Day after day, our Facebook group is becoming more popular. It is always a pleasure to look at all the pictures added. You can also take a look at our videos (go on www.youtube.com ). Some of our current students discuss their wonderful stays in Montreal and at GEOS and invite their friend to join our GEOS Montreal group.

School Activities

Our students went to play soccer in Jean Mance park.  Boys and girls played together and had lots of fun. The most sportive and motivated students went to play paintballs in two teams. They were shot many times but they had lots of fun.

School ActivitiesThen, we organized a tour to Schwarz’s. They went to eat savored smoked meat sandwich. It is very important to a new student to drop by Schwarz’s. It’s like a ‘must’ for these new students. They have to try smoked meat sandwich, poutine and bagels. The last but not the least activity of this month was to hike the Mont Royal. Every Monday, they also had the chance to watch a movie. They watched: ‘One million dollar baby’, ‘Lost translation’ and the French movie ‘Ensemble, c’est tout”.

School Activities
The English coffee talk is going well. Every Tuesday, it takes place in the lounge area with coffee, cookies and students!!!! The French coffee talk will be put in stand by for a while. In terms of events, the students participated in the Francofolies, a well-known festival in Montreal that introduces some new bands.

School ActivitiesThe Fireworks competition finished on August 15th. This competition started on June 13th and finished on August 15th with a total of 10 fireworks. So great! You could also enjoy the festiblues, that lasts only a couple of days.

No, it's not the end of the summer, not yet!

Ecaterina, a French teacher at GEOS Montreal,  introduces herself:

Student Testimonial

"Hello everyone! I'm Virginia and I'm from Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico. I'm 22 years old and I work as an English teacher. I stayed in Montreal for one month and it was one of the most amazing and exciting experiences I've ever had. I enjoyed meeting new people, new cultures and above all, giving me the opportunity to improve and learn more about the language. I also enjoyed being in my classes. In my opinion there are good teachers here in GEOS and it was a pleasure to meet all these great people. I've never thought I'd be traveling abroad and being here in Montreal, Canada. I really liked being at the Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, the biodome, old Montreal, etc. There are many places to go to have the best time of your life. I'm going to miss all of you GEOS people, the staff that have been really nice not only to me  but also to everyone and last but not least my teachers.I'm going to miss being in your classes:)

So, if you really want to improve your English abilities this is a good choice. It is something you'll have to experience by yourself.

GEOS thanks for letting me be part of this  memorable experience."

MUCHAS GRACIAS

Thank you so much

Sincerely yours,

VICKY

Something to Know About

"I am doing a marketing internship at NotaBene Gifts and I 'm learning how to promote the company at Canadian market. I need to demonstrate my knowledge trough marketing strategies and some presentations. I can express my ideas and my boss accepts it very well, always helping me as she can.

I need to work 3 times per week and twice I need to finish my job at home."

Kisses,
Carla

What is happening this month in Montreal?

An important festival that must not be missed is the Montreal World Film festival. The Montreal World Film Festival is offering an $80. passport, which, by the sound of it, will let you watch as many films as you want throughout the run of the festival (Aug. 27 to Sept. 7, this year.) The festival will sell single tickets for $10 and a booklet of 10 coupons (which can be exchanged for tickets) for $60.
