Friday, July 31st, 2009 - Newsletter “Montreal - The GEOS Insider”

Welcome to our July newsletter. We usually feel so good in July for two reasons. First, the weather is usually nice and warm. Secondly, many students are on  vacation and enjoying their free time visiting us and taking some French or English lessons. This means that our school is much more crowded which we love. These students are also looking for cultural and social activities and sunny days. While the activities, festivals and other cultural events have been superb, the weather has, unfortunately, not been cooperating. We have our fingers crossed for a sunnier and more pleasant August and September.

Please keep in touch and join our Facebook group! Feel free to insert pictures and share your experiences with your friends. Day after day, our Facebook group is becoming more popular. It is always a pleasure to look at all the pictures added. You can also take a look at our video testimonials that we just have started to compile this month (go on www.youtube.com). Some of our current students discuss their wonderful stays in Montreal and at GEOS.

School Activities

School ActivitiesJuly was a nice month because it is always nice to be at GEOS, to see the teachers and the staff members every single day, and of course to be in contact with our international students. We started the month of July with an extraordinary event "the international jazz festival"!!! It was wonderful and must be experienced by anyone wishing to see a world class event. We could listen to music from well-known or unknown artists. This is what is great in this festival: you can see very good artists and you can discover new ones! The end of Jazz festival ushers in the beginning of Just for Laughs. As the name mentions it, this festival brings laugh and happiness! Montreal is such an interesting city in which you absolutely can not get bored.  There are activities for all the tastes and for all everyone.

School ActivitiesOur students enjoyed these activities with GEOS. The first weekend, they went to eat a poutine together as we had many new students interested in eating local culinary specialties. More than 20 students enjoyed a wonderful afternoon playing soccer and volleyball at Jean Drapeau beach. They had a nice afternoon and fun together. The most extraordinary event and we are proud of it is that we managed to gather more than 50 students to go to a 2 day trip to the Niagara Falls/ Toronto/ and the 1000 Islands. They had a great time together! They took the bus and visited two days and slept in a luxury hotel. They also went to Quebec city for a day and visited the Montmorency Falls. Besides, adding to the list was visit to Chinatown. To finish the month, they went bowling.  Our students always have  good connections with each other and they also do many activities together without any chaperone.

School ActivitiesJuly was really busy and great. This month flew by in a whirling of activity. As a bonus, we received a holiday group of 23 Mexicans students. Each of them was really nice and motivated to learn English and discover the city. Our school was definitely lively this month. The month of August will be there soon and we will certainly be very busy. The weather will surely be much better (hopefully) and we will finally have the impression to be in summer. When you look at the combination of Jazz festival, Just for Laughs, Les Nuits d’Afrique, Les Francofolies , not to mention three incredible film festivals, we understand how lucky we are to be in a world class city! Montreal is amazing, you really can find everything that you want.

Student Testimonial

“Nice to meet you! I’m Paola and I’m from Teggiano, Salerno. I’m happy to recommend you Geos as a good language Academy.
I arrived at Geos 2 months ago, my first day in this Academy was very traumatic: I didn’t  understand one English word, but I
had two great teachers. They helped me to improve my listening, my writing and my conversation skills. Every day was a new
incredible experience. At the same time I learned a new language and I met a lot of new cultures. I studied very hard and
after six week I went to next level changing  teachers and continuing to improve my English.
I’m very impressed with how Geos has helped me with this language completely unknown to me prior to this course.I always loved the communication, now I can communicate with people from every part of the world. I think this is amazing!
Geos had change my world vision. I have to say “Thank you” to Geos, to its staff and to its special teachers because now I
feel a citizen of the world.”

The experience of...

Chitose is a student of our in GEOS. She has studied French for 12 weeks and she is ready to start her master degree in  Biotechnology in September 2009, a two years program.
She applied for it last year but she received a conditional acceptance because she had to improve her level of English and take the TOEFL exam. For that, she studied English last year and passed her TOEFL successfully. She got her bachelor degree in Health Science in Japan.
She wants to specialize in cancer research. Technically, her master degree is parasitology but she has no favorite parasite .:-)) She would like to stay and work in Montreal but if she can not stay, she will return to Japan and start to work there.
She recommends to come to Montreal because there are people from different countries, and the summertime is really nice with all the festivals and events.
