June and July are our busiest months. While Montreal attracts students year-round, the festival season and the school vacation mean that the city and school are filled with even more happy faces from many diverse countries. The Formula One, Jazz Festival, Fireworks Competition and Comedy Festival (to name only a few) provide our students with a non-stop itinerary, but the staff is constantly reassured that these same students still find time to take their studies as seriously as ever.
Although we are at our busiest, the goals, ambitions, cares, and concerns of each individual student remain our hightest priority, and our staff works even harder to ensure that everyone feels at home.
Once again, thank you to all of our former students who continue to contact us, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our great city.

Happy summer times everyone! June is here, and Montreal is more alive than ever!
After our winter and spring, Montreal knows how to celebrate in style in the summer. :)
If you’ve never been to Montreal in the summer, you are REALLY missing out. Formula 1 weekend, The Fashion Festival, The Fireworks Festival, and of COURSE the Montreal International Jazz Festival are all top-notch free entertainment that take this city by storm every summer in June. This is definitely the place to be in Canada in the summer.
Let’s start with the Fireworks Festival. Every Saturday and some Wednesdays, LaRonde Montreal puts on a serious Firework competition involving countries from all around the world. Last weekend, we watched the French fireworks for 40 minutes synchronized to music. It was breath-taking…
Formula 1 weekend is also a zoo here in Montreal. 3 streets are closed to traffic, and pedestrians line up to get free samples of everything from razors to bailey’s shots. As well, about 20 high class Ferraris lined up on Peel Street, and were shown off to the public. Scott and Billy had a great time taking the students there, and checking out the $1 million cars. Yes, it could be worse.
Then there was Main Madness! Main Madness rules. St-Laurent, also known as the "main street" in Montreal, was closed to traffic. Students, teachers, and thousands of other Montrealers browsed the food kiosks and outdoor cafes together for hours. Thousands of people, wonderful-smelling food and interesting music dominate the scenery on St-Laurent during the Main Madness.
 Of course, there’s always the Tam-Tams of Montreal. Every Sunday, people from all over the island of Montreal congregate at Mont-Royal park to play music, relax in the sun, and of course, to play soccer. GEOS has been there for 8 weeks running, and we’re starting to put together a nice international soccer team. Columbian, Mexican, Korean and Japanese soccer strategy are all combined in our FC GEOS Montreal soccer club.
And don’t forget about the Montreal International Jazz Festival! This is the best event in all of Canada in the entire year. Imagine free concerts every hour for 2 weeks in the heart of the Montreal Place-Des-Arts area. Not bad. This is on top of the tumbling clowns, the plethora of food and the throngs of people to watch. If you haven’t been to Montreal during the Jazz Festival, then... Well just come to Montreal for the Jazz Festival. It's too good for words...
So far this summer, we've been to Quebec City, Ottawa for Canada Day, the LaRonde amusement park, Ste-Helene's Island, the Beer Festival, the Jazz Festival, The Comedy Festival, the Fireworks competition, The Formula 1 Montreal Grand Prix, and on the top of Place Ville-Marie to Club 737 for an excellent end of session party.
I could keep going, but I'm running out of room... . Montreal in the summer is awesome.

STUDENT FEATURE

This month's featured student is Na Yun Park, who comes to us all the way from Sun Cheon, South Korea. She is here to study English so that she can travel all around the world. The only problem with that, is that we want her to stay here, in Montreal!
She likes Montreal for many different reasons. For one thing, she loves the people here. She says that the people are kind and very unique. For another, she says that she has a LOT of personal space here. She feels that it is calm and relaxed, but that it can be exciting if you find the right places.
Although she has never been to Europe, Montreal reminds her of her image of Europe. Especially the architecture of the old port, she finds beautiful. She likes the nature of Montreal. There are many trees, and parks. The air is especially clean, and it's a big difference from the other countries that she has visited. There are some other Koreans here, but less than Toronto, and for that reason she has had the chance to meet many foreigners: Colombians, Mexicans, Canadians, Japanese...
Na Yun likes movies, sports, and of course, travelling. After she returns home from Canada, she will use her English to teach Science and Math. Next she is going to travel to New York, and then Europe, and then the rest of the World!
She would like to say hi to her friends and parents back home in Korea! Thank you Na Yun, and keep up the hard work!

J'aimerais bien vous remercier à GEOS pour mon séjour tellement agréable et avec beaucoup de fun.
Particulièrement je voudrais remercier mon professeur fou Jérôme qui m'a enseignée pendant trois semaines. Je ne deviendrais jamais un grand chef de cuisine mais avec ton aide peut-être...Je suis optimiste. D'avoir composé notre chanson est une experience inoubliable (but you guys haven't properly saved the video of our song which I will never forgive you...) En outre il m'a fait grand plaisir de t'expliquer quelques oeuvres d'art au musée à côté de l'école et merci pour d'avoir pu lire ta nouvelle. J'aimerais bien continuer de lire tes oeuvres et faire des projets en art thérapie plus langues plus cuisine avec toi.
Merci tellement à mon professeur Fariba qui est vraiment chébran et looc et a essayé de m'enseigner des mots blécas en francais. Elle m'a fait toujours rire et maintenant j'entend dans mon intérieur comment tu ris et cela me rend heureux. Tu m'a rappellé aux mes amies iraniennnes et pour cette raison je savais toute suite que tu es Iranienne.
A mon professeur Sandra: je suis tellement désolée pour d'avoir terminé ton jeu du Montréal qui avait commencé tellement bien. Tu étais mon professeur seulement pendant une journée mais merci pour d'avoir fait ta connaissance. Peut-être à la prochaine fois.
To Marcus and Billy: thanks a lot for all your help and your kindness. Marcus, I really like your French accent and it makes me laugh to think of coffee times with cookies and movie nights with Indiana Jones. When I think of you, I have to smile. I hope that you will continue to give your big heart and happiness to the school and to all the students.

| TEACHER OF THE MONTH |

Fariba Abolkhani has earned the distiguished honour of being this month's Teacher of the Month! Merci beaucoup Fariba!
Originally from Iran, she was a professional French teacher for 3 and a half years. She has experience in Iran working as a journalist and cinematographer, but decided that she wanted to pursue her dream of teacher French to foreign speakers.
She loves Montreal. Although she has been here for less than 3 years, she loves teaching in the multi-cultural and exciting city of Montreal. She describes Montreal as animated, alive, and very, very friendly. Her greatest experience so far has been learning about other cultures and peoples. She loves the challenge, and the diversity of it all; even in the dreaded Montreal winter.
Fariba also has experience as a translator. She has worked on a project called "La nouvelle bague du cinema francais" by Francais Truffaut, where she translated a famous French piece into her native language: Farsi. This was quite a famous project for its time, and demonstrates Fariba's multi-talented ability.
This is Fariba's first time being the Montreal GEOS teacher of the month. We would like to thank her for all of her hard work and dedication, and we wish her only the best. Once again; thank you.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
|
I have been in Montreal for one month and my weekends here have been great. Last weekend, for example, on Saturday I went to the "Old Port" with some friends to explore this amazing area of the city.  We walked a lot and in the vening we had dinner in a nice restaurant and after we saw fireworks. Then, on Sunday we went to the "Botanical Garden", which is very beautiful. Besides we went downtown to the "Jazz Festival", where we could see free shows and concerts. In general, Montreal is amazing!!
