Welcome to our May newsletter. The French lessons are becoming more and more appreciated since there have been an abundance of students coming from all around the world to learn French. Our work-experience program is also doing well. Many students are inquiring about this program which is an excellent way for student to gain a North American work experience. Concerning staff members, Yasu is coming back from his vacation in Japan. We are really happy to have him back on board. In terms of teachers, our French teacher Anthoni left because he is going back to France. Below, he tells us about his impressions of living in Montreal.
Again, please keep in touch and join our Facebook group! Feel free to insert pictures and share your experiences with your friends. Day after day, our Facebook group is becoming more popular. It is always a pleasure to look at all the pictures added. You can also take a look at our video testimonials that we just have started to compile this month (go on www.youtube.com). Some of our current students discuss their wonderful stays in Montreal and at GEOS.

May was a nice month. We enjoyed many sunny and warm days. Our most popular attractions were the bagel and poutine tours. Our students tried to help people from Montreal decide which of the two bagel places were the best! Saint Viateur or Fairmount. Many students preferred Saint Viateur, but I personally prefer Fairmount as it offers a larger variety of bagels: blueberry, cinnamon, tomatoes and even onion.
Poutine was also very appreciated by our students. We almost all ordered a duleton poutine (french fries, cheese, meat, onions)! We also went ice skating and had lots of fun as always! On May 16th, we went to the Tulip Festival to admire tulips (20 different species), discover Ottawa and visit the Museum of Citizenship. Unfortunately, it was a rainy day but our good moods and happy spirits were not dampened. The museum was really interesting because we learnt a lot about Canadian history and about the people who marked the history of Canada.
We also went to the Electro picnic to enjoy the sun, listen to fancy music and enjoy time with friends. Some of the students went to the La Ronde amusement park, situated close to downtown Montreal and they had a blast. May 31st,it was the free museum day, we could visit many museums in Montreal for free. However, it was important to select only the most important museums because there was not enough time to do everything.
The month of June will be even better since the weather is expected to be beautiful. The official summer season means more festivals, concerts and good times in the outdoors. During the month of June, students will have the chance to visit Quebec City. We will host a mix country food party. Every student will be invited to prepare and bring some food from his or her own country. A soccer game will also be organized. You can join special events such as the Beers Festival, the International Feux Loto-Quebec (a firework fest) and the Jazz festival!!! These three events are excellent and well-known festivals in Montreal. There is also La fete Nationale on June 24th. You can therefore enjoy a public holiday and a nice firework display as well as a show in park La fontaine. June brings summertime. This is such a lovely month!

This month, we welcome a new teacher: Dean, who is actually a GEOS teaching veteran since he has been working at GEOS Victoria for 8 years.
"When I arrived in Montreal 3 months ago, I couldn't understand anything. My English was terrible, but now I can talk and I need to, thank to Geos. The teachers, the staff and the administration are extremely good all the time. For instance, when I need something, I can ask them. Montreal is definitely a beautiful city and I'm used to going out with my friends at night because it's safe. Montreal is a European and North-American city. I have a lot of friends here and I'm so happy with this. If you need to learn English or French, you should study in Geos Montreal. I'm enjoying my time a lot here. When it finishes, I will miss this so much. Finally, I want to say: Thank you very much Geos!!!"

"I study English at GEOS during the weekdays and during my weekend I participate in other activities. For example, every weekend on Saturday, I go to Douglas Hospital with my church friends. There, I play Irish whistle and I sing a lot of Gospel songs for people with Alzheimer’s disease. My worship band’s name is “Living sound”. We pray these patients. We do like them. They speak English and French very well. And this is a good way for me to practice my English. I am very happy and have so good days over there. We are not paid by the hospital. It is a service that we deliver for free to the patients because we want it."
